Need a Midwife?

Liberty Midwifery is proud to provide home birth midwife services in Fort Mill, South Carolina.

Home birth is appropriate for women with low-risk pregnancies who desire non-pharmaceutical pain relief during labor. For women who have high-risk pregnancies, or desire pharmaceutical pain relief, please consider our doula services instead. Due to state laws, we cannot provide midwifery services in North Carolina.

Our current midwifery fee is $5,500. Your insurance provider may cover all or part of this fee.

Prenatal Care

Monthly appointments are scheduled through 28 weeks, biweekly appointment from 28 to 36 weeks, and weekly appointments from 36 weeks onward. Typical appointments last from 45 minutes to an hour. They include a urine sample, assessing maternal vital signs, checking the baby’s heart tones, and baby’s positioning as appropriate. Comprehensive lab testing is also included.

Labor & Delivery

During labor, routine monitoring is performed to ensure that labor remains normal, but interventions are kept to a minimum. We recommend mothers eat and drink throughout labor to maintain energy levels. Mothers are also encouraged to routinely change positions, facilitating fetal decent. Hydrotherapy, TENS units, doula support, and counter-pressure massage are the recommended methods of non-pharmaceutical pain relief. Click here to learn more about TENS units.

Newborn Care

Therapeutic skin-to-skin contact and delayed cord clamping are standard practice in our newborn care. A comprehensive newborn evaluation is performed after breastfeeding has been initiated. Initial breastfeeding support is available upon request. Comprehensive lactation counseling is available for an additional postpartum fee.

Postpartum Care

Postpartum appointments include evaluations of both maternal and infant health. Appointments generally occur at 24 hours, one week, and six weeks postpartum. Infant weight gain and maternal bleeding are closely monitored. Postpartum depression screenings are offered if necessary. Fertility and family planning counseling are available at the final appointment.
