Need Help Breastfeeding?

Breastfeeding is a skill that newborns and new moms learn together. We would be honored to provide the breastfeeding support that you and your newborn need. While we believe that “breast is best”, that doesn’t mean that nursing is always easy. We understand that there are challenges that can come with nursing, especially if you’ve had a difficult pregnancy or delivery. Our goal is to equip you to meet those challenges.

Our current lactation counseling fee is $100/hr for doula clients and $150/hr for non-doula clients. Your insurance provider may cover all or part of this fee.

Breastfeeding Support

Breastfeeding support is provided after your newborn arrives. The most common issues we encounter are maternal discomfort, milk supply issues (over and under), concerns about infant weight gain, and general fussiness while nursing. We will observe a nursing session, assess the root causes of any challenges, and address your concerns.

If needed, we also help our clients craft individualized “Pump Plans”. These are essential for women who want to incorporate pumping into their nursing routine. This could range from having just a little milk saved up for date night to pumping in preparation for returning to work.

Sessions generally run 1-2 hours.

Breastfeeding Education

Childbirth education classes are wonderful, and we highly recommend them. However, they generally don’t teach enough about nursing. That’s why we offer prenatal breastfeeding education. During our one-on-one sessions, we thoroughly cover the skills you’ll need for a successful start in your breastfeeding journey. We cover the most common issues we encounter during our support sessions. And we also discuss the tools we recommend having on hand in case issues arise.

Sessions generally run 1 hour.

We want every mother to get the support she needs regardless of her ability to pay. Free lactation resources can be found through La Leche League meetings in Ballantyne, Charlotte, Matthews, Cabarrus County, and Rock Hill.

Additionally, the National Breastfeeding hotline is 800-994-9662. Peer counselors at the Office of Women’s Health can address basic breastfeeding questions.
